Weaner Religious School of Temple Ahavat Shalom
Jewish learning starts with heart, and there’s no better time to begin than childhood. Weaner Religious School offers more than just education, it’s the foundation for a strong Jewish identity, a deep connection to our heritage, and lifelong friendships that begin with shared stories, songs, and values.
In these early years, children not only discover the richness of Jewish tradition, they begin to see themselves as part of something bigger: a community rooted in compassion, meaning, and belonging. From lighting Shabbat candles to learning about holidays, mitzvot, and history, every moment in our school is a step toward a confident, joyful Jewish future. The friendships formed here often grow into the ones they’ll carry through B’nai Mitzvah, teen programs, and beyond, anchored in shared experiences and a deep sense of connection.
At our Temple, we don’t just teach—we inspire, nurture, and celebrate every child on their unique Jewish journey.

"Education means teaching a child to be curious, to wonder, to reflect, to enquire.
The child who asks becomes a partner in the learning process, an active recipient. To ask is to grow."
- Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks z"l
Mission Statement
At Weaner Religious School we are dedicated to creating an inclusive community for your child which,
guides them in discovering the meaning and importance of their Jewish identity as well as our rich heritage and culture.
Our Curriculum
- Rooted in Jewish Values
At the heart of our Religious School is a deep commitment to teaching Jewish values that shape not only what our students know, but who they become.
Through timeless principles like Chesed (loving-kindness), Tzedakah (justice and generosity), Derekh Eretz (respect and ethical behavior), and Achrayut (personal and communal responsibility), and Ahavat Israel (love of Israel), our students learn how to live meaningful Jewish lives filled with compassion, integrity, and purpose.
These values are woven into every lesson, conversation, and activity, offering children a strong moral compass that will guide them in their relationships, decisions, and identity both within and beyond the Jewish community. It's not just about learning what Judaism teaches. It's about becoming the kind of person Judaism calls us to be. - Hebrew with Confidence
Learning Hebrew can be an intimidating prospect, but have no fear—we’re here to make that journey exciting, supportive, and achievable for every student. Even our youngest get to experience specialized language acquisition during our Hebrew Through Movement enrichment program.
Starting in the 3rd grade, our students begin formally building Hebrew reading skills and learn to recite key prayers used in Shabbat services. Step by step, letter by letter, they grow more confident in their ability to read, understand, and participate in Jewish ritual and tradition.
Our approach is patient, encouraging, and tailored to individual learning styles. We celebrate progress at every stage and remind our students (and their families!): you’ve got this—and we’re with you every step of the way.
By the time they reach their B’nai Mitzvah, our students aren’t just prepared, they’re proud of what they’ve accomplished. - Celebrating the Jewish Year with Special Programming
From apples and honey to dancing with the Torah, our Religious School brings the Jewish calendar to life with hands-on, heart-filled programming for students and their families.
Throughout the year, we create special moments that celebrate the richness of Jewish holidays—including the High Holy Days, Sukkot, Simchat Torah, Hanukkah, Tu B’Shevat, Purim, Pesach, Lag Ba’Omer, and Shavuot. Each celebration is filled with music, stories, crafts, food, and joy, offering kids a deep and joyful connection to tradition that they’ll carry with them for years to come.
These programs are more than fun. They build memories, reinforce learning, and bring our community together in a way that’s meaningful, festive, and uniquely Jewish.
