On Sunday October 8 at 2:00 pm, the TAS Book Club is arranging a theatre outing.  

We recently read the play “Indecent” by Paula Vogel and viewed a filming of the original Broadway staging. 

To refresh your memory, “Indecent” is a new Jewish play that was performed on Broadway in 2017.  That year, It was nominated for the Tony Award’s best new play of the year and won two other prestigious Tony Awards.  Students in a Jacksonville High School were planning to stage this play earlier this year but were banned by their school board.  The play, “Indecent”, is about a Yiddish play ( “God of Vengeance” by Sholem Asch) that was banned on Broadway in 1923.  The irony here is that exactly 100 years later, a play about this play was again banned here in Florida.  Will we ever learn.   

American Stage Theatre, a highly acclaimed local theatre company based in St. Petersburg, will be performing this play from October 4 - October 29, 2023.  The Book Club will be going as a group to the Sunday matinee at 2:00 pm on October 8.  After the show, we plan to go as a group to a restaurant in the area and share a meal together.  Tickets are discounted 20% and will cost $44.60 each.  We already have 10 or more going.
